The big old grand Royal Hotel has dominated the end of St Mary Street since it first opened in 1866. Perfectly located for The Millennium Stadium or shopping adventures in Cardiff.
When the building was remodelled 7 years ago, the hotel lifted itself up to the second floor above the hustle and bustle of the vibrant street, once you’ve found your way up to us we’re sure you won’t be disappointed.
Through constantly striving to improve our services, you’ll find that things have changed a lot in the last few years, you’ll find us ranked higher than most on Tripadvisor so it’s not just us that thinks so.
We don’t always get it right for absolutely everyone and quite frankly nobody does, but tell us what’s wrong and we’ll move heaven and earth to try and fix it for you.
We have 60 rooms that have been converted from the internal space of the original hotel and because that building is 146 years old, no one room is the same as the other.
As a team we’ve been working together for a few years now. The business started afresh just as the recession hit hard in Cardiff so we’ve been working non stop to raise The Royal from the ashes. We continue to go from strength to strength and are constantly re-investing in the property and people. We have just currently undergone a half a million pound exterior refurbishment of the Hotel and we now look shinier than ever standing proud in the City.
Our friendly team work extremely hard to provide a service and environment that you will enjoy, afterall, we want you to keep coming back! Through grading schemes and from guest feedback and assessments, the hotel has been recognised as providing the service of a four star hotel. We are recognised by The Visit Wales scheme as a three star metro hotel, mainly because our bar and restaurant are twinned.
Sadly we don’t have any parking at the hotel but we do have negotiated rates with a nearby NCP car park or the Cardiff Blues stadium. NCP parking in their Wood Street property can be added to your hotel bill.
Cardiff has changed dramatically over the last few years and is a simply awesome place to visit but driving through the town centre and parking is an absolute nightmare, if you can leave the car behind then we recommend it. We are only just a couple of minutes walk from Cardiff central rail station and the central bus station, so the links to public transport are awesome.
If you are driving, please, please, please do make your plan to drive to a major, developing city centre. There are directions on this site with a route planner too.
On the whole we would much rather be busy than idle so we do loads of special rates nearly all the time, so don’t be put off if you think we’re too cheap, we are more than happy if you want to pay us more !. Equally, please understand that we can’t always do deals, generally the earlier you book, the better deal we can offer. Phoning us will ALWAYS get you the best deal.
For a balanced view, please do see our Tripadvisor listing. It is a matter of pride and integrity that we promise that all our reviews are absolutely genuine and have been made by guests who have stayed with us, apart from the odd stinker that’s obviously been made up by someone who doesn’t like us!. But we do learn from our mistakes, tell us what’s wrong and we’ll fix it, that’s why we've moved rapidly from number 37 to number 15 of the 86 hotels in Cardiff
There are a number of other forums available to check us out but please make sure that you come back here to book or phone us. We promise, really, truly honestly that you will never find the hotel cheaper anywhere else, it’s not in our interest for you to book through someone else.
People describe us and the hotel as : friendly, trendy, helpful, modern, tasteful, chic,
